Petco Love

Standish Humane Society is set to receive a $10,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for animals through their out-of-state transport program that brings cats from high-kill states to Massachusetts for adoption.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in Standish Humane Society is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,”

Johanna from PA

said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet image technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“The support of Petco Love will enable Standish Humane Society to double our efforts this year toward easing one of the cruelest aspects of animal welfare - the number of feral cat colonies that exist in every community in Massachusetts.  Left to breed indiscriminately, the death from starvation and predators is tragic but can be addressed one cat at a time through trapping, vet care including neutering and either release or socialization with the goal of adoption,” said Joyce Keyes, Standish Humane Society President.

Standish Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting our local community with rehoming adoptable cats and kittens to safe, loving forever homes. We promote low cost spay and neuters to reduce feline overpopulation in southeast Massachusetts and engage in efforts to actively trap, neuter, feed and assess community cat colonies to further reduce the overpopulation and suffering of outdoor kitties. Standish recently celebrated our 53rd anniversary and is proud to be a Petco Love partner in animal welfare and lifesaving.
